Sashay into 2021 with Goals. But First…

Whew. 2020 is in the rearview mirror. Do you have goals for the new year? If so, great. If not, take time to start with 2020. Acknowledge what it took and what it gave. Mentally stroll through last year, consider the prompts below, grab a pen, and write (did you know that writing clarifies thought?):

  • What was your proudest moment or high point?

  • What did you set out to do, and work hard for, that didn’t happen?

  • What big challenge did you overcome?

  • What mindset or actions served you best and/or empowered you?

The first part of 2021 may look a lot like 2020. Be sure you have the emotional and physical bandwidth to do what you aim to do this year. Who do you want to become? What do you want to achieve?

Goal setting in 2021 may look different for you if 2020 drained your tank. If so, weave some self-compassion into your goals this year. You might choose just one achievable goal that touches you at your core. If you achieve it (yay!), celebrate — and apply that confidence to setting and reaching other goals. Goalsetting can be empowering if you do it with the right tools and attitude. I use Michael Hyatt’s SMARTER goals framework that taps into motivation and breaks goals down into action steps: https://medium.com/the-ascent/how-to-make-your-smart-goals-smarter-fef02e332f76

Here’s to a breakthrough year in your life, work, relationships, finances, passions, and health. Onward!
